Man is a walking ambiance. As the various elements of an ambiance—music, lighting, aromas, colors, furniture, and the like—produce certain moods, so too does a man's conduct. Now why is this important to recognize? The various elements of an ambiance produce moods, moods that go on to shape conduct in a somewhat mysterious manner which can either be virtuous or vicious.
Imagine attending a traditional wedding, in that setting, you will feel a pure charm and enchantment. Now imagine being thrust into an EDM rave concert, you will feel an animal-like exhilaration and rush. In the former, your outward appearance will be filled with gentle smiles, reverent gazes, and an honorable posture. In the latter, delirious smiles, haughty and wild gazes, and perhaps no posture just bodily contortions. Thus we see two different ambiances with corresponding moods and conduct. Intuitively we can also see that one mode of conduct symbolizes virtue and the other vice.
We can go another layer deep and reaffirm the first premise, man is a walking ambiance. The conduct of the raver thrives upon the ambiance found in the EDM concert, it is his sustenance in the same way that food is for the body. So for this conduct to persist he must produce or find an EDM concert or something that produces that same moods and conduct. He is, indeed, a walking ambiance or, in other words, his moods and conduct produce or give rise to certain ambiances.
A man desiring great keenness and refinement of judgment will analyze this dynamic within himself, between his moods and conduct and the various ambiance he is attracted to. He will survey his various tastes calmly, when opportune, and ask himself, 'How does this interior design, this party, this song, et cetera, affect my conduct?' And 'How does my conduct influence my tastes?' It is deeply symbolic this discernment.
Once he gains a certain grasp of this kind of analysis he will spot imbalances in his behavior. Perhaps, his boldness and gravitas are slightly too haughty and cold causing a certain unhealthy alienation among his friends. And maybe this corresponds to an excessive indulgence in music of a more martial spirit. The remedy may be to control the indulgence of the mood, limit his time listening to this kind of music, or add other kinds of music with other refined moods-- instead of Beethoven's 7th Symphony, he could listen to Handel's Water music.
Now once he adjusts the moods that express themselves in his conduct he will then refine and edify his family, friends, allies, and enemies-- their conduct will be elevated in unique ways. But if imbalances persist he will cause the various social groups to develop abnormalities and eccentricities that will serve to undermine any order present.
So, Ladies, Gentlemen, let us be on guard without a troubling spirit but a tranquil one, and behold ourselves with a keener eye, one that sees ourselves as walking ambiances.
